# Configuring Chronology Queries (RIM)

Chronology queries allow you to view _Application_ object records chronologically in a single report, giving critical business insights on complex data extracted from your Vault.

You can also use multi-pass reporting to configure an Application Chronology report that connects submissions, regulatory objectives, commitments, and correspondence documents to an application, all ordered by a date. Your organization can use this report to see everything that has occurred for an application organized in chronological order. See [Configuring the Application Chronology Multi-Pass Report](/en/lr/62620/ ) for details.

## How to Enable Chronology Queries

Contact Veeva Support to request this feature in your RIM Vault.

## How to Configure Chronology Queries

After Veeva Support enables this feature, you can update settings for chronology queries from **Admin** > **Settings** > **Application Settings**. Use the following settings to configure the _Chronology Report_ query:

  * **Submission Object**: Select a date field from the _Submission_ object. This selection controls the sort order of the _Submission_ records in the returned CSV for the _Chronology Report_. Sort always shows most recent dates first and oldest dates last.
  * **Commitment Object**: Select a date field from the _Commitment_ object. This selection controls the sort order of the _Commitment_ records in the returned CSV for the _Chronology Report_. Sort always shows most recent dates first and oldest dates last.
  * **Document Type**: Select a document type. Vault only includes documents with the specified document type in the query results. The document type you select needs to have at least one document field referencing the _Application_ object.
  * **Application Field**: Select a document field that references the _Application_ object. Vault uses this field to determine which documents are related to the application on which a user triggered the query.
  * **Date Field for Sorting**: Select a date-type document field for the document type selected. Vault uses this date field to order the chronology query in reverse chronological order.
