Document relationships create a connection between two documents. Read more about Document Relationships.
Document Relationships available in RIM
Based On
When you create a document from a Controlled Document Template, that newly created document inherits a Based On relationship to the specific version of the template document from which it was derived. This relationship allows you to easily track which documents are based on which version of which Template.
Linked Documents
Vault automatically creates these relationships between a source document and a target document when a user creates link annotations that refer to an anchor on the target document.
Originates From
This is an Active Dossier-specific relationship. The Originates From relationship allows you to relate the documents that the current document version should replace/supersede in the Active Dossier.
Redaction
The Redacted yes/no document field and Redaction document relationship type have been added to support EU Clinical Trial Regulation (CTR) and the growing industry trend towards clinical trial transparency. The Redacted field is available for authors or publishers to identify whether a document contains redactions. Additionally, the Redaction document relationship allows users to establish a relationship between redacted documents and their unredacted source files.
Source References
Vault automatically creates this relationship between source documents and published Submissions Archive or Submission Ready-type documents during the publishing process or at submission import. Additionally, Vault creates this relationship on documents processed and created by the RIM Correspondence Email Processor. A Source Reference relationship is created on each document created from the email’s attachments and points to the source email document.
Related Email Documents
Vault automatically creates a Related Email Documents relationship on documents processed and created by the RIM Correspondence Email Processor. A Related Email Documents relationship is created on the source email document and points to the documents created from its attachments.
Supporting Documents
This is intended to allow two documents to be linked together. It is generally not Version Specific.
Translation
Vault allows users to link translated documents (e.g., non-English documents) with their source documents. In countries where submissions must be provided in the local language, Active Dossier queries the Translations document relationship to identify the English source documents. While the English source document is always shown in Active Dossier, the local language translation is visible from the hover card.
Attachments
The Attachment relationship provides a simple way to upload and associate related files with existing documents without the overhead of Vault’s full document management capabilities. More information can be found here.
